The situation we are in at the 18th At Walden has been evolutionary and gradual in its transformation. For whatever reason, quorum has not been achieved at an 18th At Walden general membership (The Council of Co-Owners) meeting in a long time. The unfortunate fact of that matter is the tendency for a board to select and appoint only the people they like. The last thing a board of appointed members is ever going to do is appoint someone who disagrees with what they have done. The end result, over time, is a board that DOES NOT reflect the views of the membership. With the authority of being “on the board” but not elected “to the board” (and therefore not directly answerable to the membership), an attitude of “we’re in charge, just live with it” develops. From the board’s viewpoint, it becomes an “us versus them” situation with the inability to ever achieve quorum for an actual election as the firewall between what the board does and any means of the members being able to stop it. All of that changes on October 21st. We need your signed proxy and then, even though you have given us your proxy, we need you there in person, if at all possible…but YOUR PROXY is everything.
